A Happy Ending Story

No, really, it is.  HT:  The Bookworm Room:
On a Northwest Airways flight from Atlanta , GA , a well attired middle-aged woman found herself sitting next to a man wearing a kippa (”yarmulke” in Yiddish). She called the attendant over to complain about her seating.

“What seems to be the problem, Madam?” asked the attendant.

“You’ve sat me next to a Jew!! I can’t possibly sit next to this strange man. Please find me another seat!”

“Madam, I will see what I can do to accommodate,” the attendant replied, “but the flight is virtually full today and I don’t know if there is another seat available.”

The woman shoots a snooty look at the snubbed Jewish man beside her (not to mention the surrounding passengers).

A few minutes later the attendant returned and said, “Madam, the economy and club sections are full, however, we do have one seat in First class.”

Before the lady had a chance to respond, the attendant continued, “It is only for exceptions that we make this kind of upgrade, and I had to ask permission from the captain. But, given the circumstances, the captain felt that no one should be forced to sit next to an unpleasant person.”

The flight attendant then turned to the Jewish man sitting next to her, and said: “So, if you’d like to get your things, Sir, I have a comfortable seat for you in First class.”

At this point, the surrounding passengers stood up and gave a standing ovation while the Jewish man walked up to the front of the plane.

The lady then said indignantly, “The Captain must have made a mistake….” To which the attendant replied, “No Ma’am. Captain Cohen never makes a mistake.”
For those who don't recognize Cohen as Jewish, it is the Hebrew word for "priest," and a common Jewish family name.

I love it!

No, tell us what you really think!

"Monstrous mountain of toxic pustules sprouting from greasy boils metastasizing from malign carbuncles."

Thus does the inimitable Mark Steyn furnish us with a concise summary of the Senate's attempt at alleged healthcare reform.  His expanded version is equally enlightening, an excerpt of which is below:
We were told we had to do it because of the however many millions of uninsured, yet this bill will leave some 25 million Americans uninsured. On the other hand, millions of young fit healthy Americans in their first jobs who currently take the entirely reasonable view that they do not require health insurance at this stage in their lives will be forced to pay for coverage they neither want nor need. On the other other hand, those Americans who’ve done the boring responsible grown-up thing and have health plans Harry Reid determines to be excessively “generous” will be subject to punitive taxes up to 40 percent. On the other other other hand, if you’re the member of a union which enjoys privileged relations with Commissar Reid you’ll be exempt from that 40 percent shakedown. On the other other other other hand, if you’re already enjoying government health care, well, you’re 83 years old and, let’s face it, it’s hardly worth us giving you that surgery for the minimal contribution you make to society, so in the cause of extending government health care to millions of people who don’t currently get it we’re going to ration it for those currently entitled to it.

Looking at the millions of Americans it leaves uninsured, and the millions it leaves with worse treatment and reduced access, and the millions it makes pay significantly more for their current health care, one can only marvel at Harry Reid’s genius: government health care turns out to be all government and no health care. Adding up the zillions of new taxes and bureaucracies and regulations it imposes on the citizenry, one might almost think that was the only point of the exercise.

....

As I’ve been saying for over a year now, “health care” is the fast-track to a permanent left-of-center political culture. The unlovely Democrats on public display in the week before Christmas may seem like just a bunch of jelly-spined opportunists, grubby wardheelers and rapacious kleptocrats, but the smarter ones are showing great strategic clarity. Alas for the rest of us, Euro-style government on a Harry Reid/Chris Dodd/Ben Nelson scale will lead to ruin.
Any other questions?

Hey, ACLU! Merry Freakin' Christmas to ya!

Yes, I am hoping someone at the ACLU is reading this!  The adrenal rush will do them good.

So to them (just to raise their blood pressure), and to the greater than 90% of Americans that are not offended by someone wishing them a Merry Christmas, including most Jews, and the majority of other normal (statistically and otherwise) people of this great country:

MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Now for those of you who never grew up and constantly take offense at others with different opinions from you so that you have to whine and complain and Bah-Humbug your way through this holiday (holy day) season, I offer the following:
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all;

PLUS

a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great, (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only “AMERICA” in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, choice of computer platform, or sexual orientation of the wisher.

(Disclaimer: By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms. This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher who assumes no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)
And for those who really want to know what this season is truly about:

Political Cartoons by Gary Varvel

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

I SAID, That's MY Bone!

Spew alert!  Set down your beverage before you watch this:

I was working last night and heard my family laughing uproariously in the TV room.  This is what they were watching.  I'm sure some political commentary could be imposed on this, but some things should just be apolitical for the sheer humor's sake.  Enjoy!

Ivory Tower Syndrome

In a short, but succinct post over at Publius’ Forum, Mr. Huston points us to an interesting fact about the makeup of The One’s Cabinet, a group of advisors supposedly helping him make policy decisions and shaping the direction of this country. If ever there were a need to pray for the leaders of our country (1 Timothy 2:1-2), now is the time.

I will let him tell the story:

Almost 40% of William Howard Taft’s cabinet officials were from the private sector.  Ike had nearly 60% of his appointees sporting private sector experience.  Reagan had about 55% and George W. Bush about 53%.  Even FDR and Truman had half their cabinet officials with private sector experience.

And Obama?

Less than 10%.

That means that only about 7% of Barack Hussein Obama’s cabinet appointees ever worked in the private sector.  So is it any wonder that Barack Obama has become the president responsible for an unprecedented bloating of the federal government and a take over of power on a scale never before seen?

Nick Schulz published a great graph revealing the private sector experience of the appointees of every president since 1901.

obamacabinet

Remembering that Barack Obama himself never held a real job his whole life the fact that he surrounds himself with government hacks, placemen, and hangerson yet is expected to be the one to fix the private sector economy and, well, we can see why he is failing so miserably. He has no life experiences to draw on and neither does anyone he’s asked to advise him.

No wonder America is on the fast track to socialism.

No wonder indeed!

Top Ten Reasons Black America Fears Rush Limbaugh

I found this post over on a blog of a former Townhall blogger who migrated to a different blogging platform, who in turn found it here. It is self-explanatory and communicates with that biting humor that gets the point across without undue rancor. Well done, Mr. Marcus!

I am a black man who, since 1993, has been a regular listener of the Rush Limbaugh radio program. I must caution black America. Be afraid, be very afraid of this powerful white man. Regular listening to him could be devastating to the psyche of the 96% of black Americans who voted for Obama. I have compiled the following Top Ten list of reasons why.

10. If you want to believe blacks are eternal victims in America, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

9. If you do not want to take responsibility for your life, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

8. If you are a dead beat loser who voted for Obama in hope of him redistributing what others worked for to you, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

7. If you believe blacks can not achieve without lowered standards and intervention by government and liberals, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

6. If you believe blacks who speak English correctly and are self sufficient are traitors, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

5. If you believe black liberal Democrats (Sharpton, Jackson, Waters & Co.) are your friends rather than your slave masters, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

4. If you do not believe self respect, pride and true self esteem comes from personal achievement, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

3. If you want to hate your country and believe it is the greatest source of evil in the world, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

2. If you want to believe rich white racist Republicans are burning the midnight oil thinking of ways to keep black America down, do not listen to Rush Limbaugh.

And the number one reason black America should fear regularly listening to Rush Limbaugh; they will become ditto heads.

Lloyd Marcus (black) Unhyphenated American

On Huckabee's Role in the Clemmons Case

I am somewhat conflicted regarding Gov. Huckabee and his policies since with many of his past policies I would disagree, but I am not when it comes to facts and data and honest reporting.  Apparently there has been some bandwagon jumping on the conservative side and a rush to judgment that approaches liberal behavior.  Kevin McCullough does a more thorough background check here and here to set the record straight.  Recommended reading regardless of what you think of Huckabee.  Do not act like a liberal.  Get the facts and act upon them, not on your feelings, or on hear-say.
